Prof. h.c. Michael Zobel is an internationally reknown jewellery-artist, working in the City of Constance since 1968.
Since 2010 Michael Zobel designs jewellery for the ANNICK Schmuckdesign Gmbh in the city of Constance, which receives international attention.
Michael Zobel was born in the Moroccan town of Tangier in 1942 and grew up in Barcelona. He trained and studied as a jewellery designer in Pforzheim, worked in Paris and in 1968 finally came to the city of Constance, where he settled and opened his first own shop.
Here was his name quickly became synonymous with exclusive and innovative jewellery design, and his renown spread far and wide. Customers around the world as well as numerous international exhibitions and awards testify to this. Michael Zobel is a true cosmopolitan who feels equally at home at an exhibition opening on Menorca, a symposium in Rio de Janeiro, a jewellery fair in Chicago or a summer university in Bishkek – where in 2003 he was awarded an honorary professorship at the Kyrgyz State University of Construction, Transportation and Architecture.
His many trips and encounters are an important inspiration to him, and he continually brings new ideas and materials back to his studio in Konstanz. Thus, during a visit to China, he collected ancient coins, which he then for his ‘China Impressions’ incorporated in sumptuous jewellery.
In 2005, he handed over Schmuckatelier Zobel to a worthy successor and planned to just concentrate on the design, but friends and customers have since urged him to again open a showroom. In order to maintain a more personal relationship he founded the ANNICK Schmuckdesign GmbH in 2010. Named after his wife Annick, ANNICK Schmuckdesign now brings Michael Zobel back to the roots of his artistic career in the city of Constance, because just across the Kreuzlinger Strasse was his first workshop, where the design-adventure began in 1968.
“A piece of jewellery is primarily a concept, an idea. If such an idea is determined by the material, it is also animated by it.”
“A piece of jewellery is primarily a concept, an idea. If such an idea is determined by the material, it is also animated by it. Unique objects are developed through the combination of precious metals and stones as well as unconventional materials, objects that are extraordinary and wearable at the same time – For over 45 years, this has been the incentive and measure for my creative work” Michael Zobel
Since 2010 Michael Zobel designs jewellery for the ANNICK Schmuckdesign GmbH in the city of Constance, which receives international attention.
He joins exquisite pearls, precious stones and metals into extraordinary organic forms. The materials combine and complement each other, forming contrasts and harmonies – transforming into wearable works of art.
It is the masterful combination of materials and unusual treatment of surfaces that makes jewellery by Michael Zobel so spectacular. Objects made of gold, platinum and silver, extraordinary stones and cuts – like a protective second skin, full of emotion and passion.
